Shivaji Shikshanottejak Mandal (SSM) stands as one of Mumbai’s leading educational institutions — a testament to vision, perseverance, and a deep commitment to societal growth through education.

🌟 The Visionary Behind the Mandal

The credit for SSM’s foundation and success goes to the visionary Hon. N. J. Lokegaonkar, fondly known as Bhausaheb Lokegaonkar. From his early days, Bhausaheb had an unwavering love for learning. Despite facing hardships, he pursued education and took up a teaching job, driven by the belief that society can only progress through education.

Motivated by the ideals of Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj, Bhausaheb dreamed of opening schools in underprivileged and rural areas — a dream that took shape on 15th March 1959 with the formation of Shivaji Shikshanottejak Mandal.

Soon after:

  • New Shivaji Night High School was launched in June 1959
  • Shivaji Vidyalaya was established in June 1960
  • The foundation stone of the Mandal’s own building was laid on 26th January 1961

His journey was strengthened by the unwavering support of his wife, Hon. Smt. Sunandatai Lokegaonkar, whose leadership helped SSM continue to thrive and grow.
